My First Blog Post--Can I Take a Nap Now? A Continuing Saga...

August 31, 2016

As part of my Political Science Field Work course, I decided to write about my experiences in running for the Vigo County School Corporation Board of Trustees.  These comments are my thoughts, feelings, high-points and frustrations as I embark on this journey.  I have been working since June in getting my campaign started and find that November is fast approaching.

One of my biggest concerns when I started was whether or not I would have enough energy and stamina to go through this and still be strong in November.  I work full-time, am a wife and mother, and also take courses towards my bachelor's degree.  Many who know me know that I have chronic migraines and can easily get fatigued.  There's a limit to how much I can do each day--however, working for only one hour a day is better than nothing.

I enjoy going to events and meeting people--hearing their concerns and success stories, understanding where they are in their journey, and why our education system is so important to them.  I am reminded with each story the big WHY of my decision to run for office.  It's not for me.  It's for the kids in our community.  It's for their parents who want to see their children succeed.  It's for the teacher who's spending their own money on school supplies because they know most of our students would go without.  It's for the taxpayer who wants to know that the corporation is financial sound and on the right track.

This is what keeps me going...good night, Vigo County!
